“Hey,” Shepard’s arms shot out to steady her, a hand around her back for support. A walk around the room seemed like a good start, if she could manage it. To be honest, it looked like she could — but there was a difference between being able to and wanting to be able to.

“Take it easy. Go slowly, then you’ll get the hang of it,” He told her, releasing his grip on her waist so he wouldn’t make her uncomfortable, before repeating; “Baby steps.”

Megan just nodded, “Thanks…” she muffled under her breath. She then started to take just baby steps, steadily herself by placing a hand on a nearby table. Few moments had passed, and Megan started to take bigger steps. Soon as she thought she had it, she fell, bum first on the floor.

“I’m fine, I’m fine–” Megan spoke out, as she stood up ’Sometimes you need to run, before you can walk…’ Her thoughts spoke to themselves. Getting up she started taking more, and more steps. Until a few moments passed where all the numbness in her legs had passed away.

“Think I should be fine now…well, better.” Looking around at the man “So…Shepard, right? What exactly is it that you do?” Megan was now fishing for well-needed answers.

Shepard moved to steady her — and catch her, if he had to — when she stumbled. Yeah, news like that was pretty difficult to come to terms with. He’d keep his mouth closed about the fact that he wasn’t entirely human. Not really, anyway. One thing at a time.

“Calm down. It’s okay.” He told her, trying to catch her eye. Eye contact was supposed to calm people, or something, Shepard wasn’t really sure. He wasn’t a doctor. “That’s, uh, gonna be difficult. Let’s see if you can walk first. Baby steps — literally.”

Placing a hand on his shoulder for support, “Thanks…” The doctor huffed slightly as she nodded, yeah baby steps. Then–figure out how exactly she got there in the first place… Taking another step she kept her eyes on the ground, glancing up ever so often.

Letting go of Shepard’s shoulder, she took her first step wobbling as she did so, quickly she took another step. Almost falling, Megan quickly reached out for a nearby table to again steady herself.

Shepard paused for a moment, trying to think of an answer that wouldn’t alarm her. But that was just wishful thinking — whatever he said was going to alarm her no matter how he worded it. How are you supposed to tell someone that it’s over one hundred years later and there’s aliens among them?

“You’re not gonna like this,” he began, hands at the ready to hold her down if she tried to escape. That wouldn’t end great for either of them — and the earful he’d get from the salarian doctor wasn’t worth it, “It’s 2186.”

“What–?” Megan froze in place for a moment, taking the time to momentarily collect herself. This HAD to be some sort of dream… Looking at Shepard, no she was pretty sure that it wasn’t at all a dream of any sorts.

“I should get back to my time–” Megan spoke as she attempted to stand only to find that her legs weren't complying very well. Causing her to stumble a bit, “Shit…” Megan muffled.

Shepard didn’t respond for a few seconds, taking her hand in a firm shake. “The Normandy is a spaceship, yeah.” He eyed her carefully — evidently there was some memory loss. He’d ask Mordin about that later. However, she did have a pretty good grip for someone who was just lying on a hospital bed.

“What year do you think it is?” Shepard asked, acknowledging it was rude to answer a question with a question but he wanted to know. He loosened his grip on her hand but didn’t let go completely; using it as a vice in case she became overwhelmed.

A spaceship? Was this for real? Glancing down at his hand, she slowly slipped her hand away from his. Looking back up at the Commander, with her brow arched.

Well…” Megan began as she rested both hands at her side, “the last time I checked…it was 2028…” The gaze never left the Commander, Megan knew that there was going to be bad news. From the very moment she woke up she knew.

Shepard watched after Mordin as he left, humming before turning back to her. He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. “You’re in a medical facility aboard my ship. I’m Commander Shepard, the one who rescued you.”

Shepard paused before speaking again, raising an eyebrow. “You probably have a lot of questions, but now isn’t the best time. Let’s see if you can sit up.”

Slowly Megan sat up from the medical bed. A wave of dizziness over clouded her thoughts, causing her to firmly place her palm against her forehead for a brief moment. After regaining her focus, Megan let her hand fall limp into her lap.

“Commander Shepard–My name’s Dr. Megan Reed,” She spoke looking at the man, offering her hand towards him for a friendly handshake.

“…I do have a lot of questions, though something tells me that I was just in the wrong place at the right time… I’m sorry, did you say ship? Like a space ship?” Megan blinked slightly, suddenly Megan remembered a small device that she was researching back at Sarif Industries… Could it have hurled her into another universe?

“What’s the year?” Megan knew that it wasn’t the right time, though she had to know.

Shepard stepped forward and into view, allowing her to see him for the first time. A familiar species would probably do her some good — she didn’t seem too fond of salarians. In fact, she didn’t seem like she recognized the salarian race.

“Relax.” Shepard speaks quietly, nodding in encouragement. “Don’t worry. I’m a human like you.”

Looking at the man, a sign of relief slipped out of her lips. Glancing over at Mordin, whom wondered off humming to himself… Turning her attention back towards the man in front of her. Oh good, she really wasn't abducted by aliens.

Megan had so many questions, “Who are you? Where am I?”

With a jolt Megan sat up, the doctor was instantly greeted with uncertainty of her surroundings. Glancing down she noticed that what she was laying on was some sort of medical bed… What was this place. Also, how long was she out for? Megan continued to examine the room, it seemed to be some sort of medical area.

“Ah, your awake–you’ve been out for quite awhile, may I require a name?” A strange alien figure, spoke with a fast pace in his tone of voice.

Megan looked at him with wide eyes, and literally jumped “W-w-who are you? What are you…” Megan spoke, as she instantly obtained her distance away from the alien. Was she abducted by aliens?

“Mordin at your service…You’ve been unconscious for a couple of days now. Vital signs are positive, though patient seems to be experiencing shock… My advice–calm down.” Mordin looked over at the woman, with a slight pause.

The words that raced from the aliens mouth, went straight through one ear and out the other. Still shocked that she was even having this conversation with this–Mordin? This HAD to be a dream.
