That was comforting; the sounds of the alarms finally came to an abrupt halt… However, the silence that followed after was unsettling. Aside from the sound of his soft but ragged breathing, and maybe the sound of his heartbeat pulsating in his ears, he sighed softly. Extending a hand out to the obviously stressed doctor, Adam’s fingers tugged at the woman’s soft hand, “Come on…”
Unlike her, he had completely ignored the guards. To what care did he hold for them? None whatsoever. If they wanted a fight, Adam was sure to give them one – as long as he got Megan off the ship alive and walking. Then again, he felt a bit off. There was something stranger going on, though what?—was another question.
‘Take the cautionary glance.’ He kept telling himself, ‘This isn’t another solo mission. You have someone else with you this time. You can’t be so damned reckless.’ Though his thoughts were shooting them at rapid fire, the inner monologue that usually cursed him out was right. He couldn’t do what he usually did on missions. The veteran had to hold back and watch her closely.
A glance was all it took. Down the corridor Adam sized the monstrous size of the new guard. Twice the size of the others – almost a size bigger than Barrett. “Fuck.” Pushing Megan behind him, he kept his gaze taut on the men beginning their round. He had to move. They had to move. With gentle pushes, Adam motioned for Megan to move in the opposite direction down the corridor. “Run and don’t look back. If you find a vent before I do, get in it and keep moving forward. Don’t go down. Go up. Now get moving.”
Megan quickly slipped her hand into Adam’s, gripping it slightly. She wasn't going to leave his side… “Adam… If you’re asking me to run off without you, think again” She whispered in a slight harsh tone. Moving away from his gentle pushes, making it quite clear that she wasn’t going anywhere without him.
Suddenly a crash along with a bang alarmed the halls. The brute had smashed through the walls, pinning Adam against the wall. In result the force also lifted Megan off her feet, sending her the other way hitting the floor. Feeling faint, she could hear the other armed men making there way to the noise.
“…Yar.” The big brute spoke in a low tone, with very little English Probably due to the drugs cyrcling his veins.
“Got runnin’! Boss goin’ happy.” He chuckled.
Megan slowly made it to her feet, as she then limped over to the brutes back and forcefully pulled a aug plugin on his back. Causing him to let go of Adam, the brute then turned around and smacked Megan. Causing her to once again hit the ground, gasping in pain. Still in a fit of rage, the brute pummeled the armed guards who were currently readily their guns to shoot.
Meanwhile,
Megan’s father entered a rather large room. The lights flickered, revealing that the large room to be a laboratory. Within the center of the room, there was a smaller room built of plexiglass. Tables surrounded the smaller room, most were covered with computers and other lab equipment.
As the older male doctor approached the smaller room, faint blood splatter struck the transparent walls. A larger machine was now in view, along with a bloody body which seemed to be recognized as a small female figure. Megan’s father grunted.
“Sir…it failed again–” A small male voice spoke out from behind the head Doctor.
“…” The older man started to approach the small room, his hands to his sides.
“Doctor?” The co-worker spoke in a nervous tone, most likely due to the silence.
“Run the tests agai–” Megan’s father was then quickly interrupted.
“But sir, we barely managed to bring the subject back to life. Are you sure that we shoul–” The lab co-worker was also interrupted. “I said, run the tests. Again. NOW.” Megan’s father kept his gaze on the subject. After loosing his wife, he became entirely devoted to his work. Obsessed even. Cybernetic lifeforms, full humanoides…no mistakes, no flaws. Perfect machines. This is the doctor’s dream/obsession.
Even if it meant joining up with an evil corporation.
“Run the tests again!” The younger doctor yelled to the rest of the team, whom all just looked back in shock.
